Smart City Light
With the Smart City Light we have bundled a set of sensors and actuators into a single housing, featuring two full HD displays for high quality visual output. The smart city light comes in a fully integrated package that simply needs to be connected to the mains to be able to run applications. With a screen size of more than 1.5m² the smart city light can be classified as a programmable digital city light. With this package we are planning to gather data from field studies in public areas as well as identify possible application scenarios for adaptive and interactive displays in such places. The smart city light serves as a test bed for various experiments in the human computer interaction field be it explicit or implicit interaction.
Because we have configured the smart city light with so many sensors and actuators it is easy to run a number of different applications on it, even at the same time (e.g. an adaptive module together with an interactive one). This all-in-one-approach allows trying out many different applications without the need for time consuming HW installation and setup processes—different applications can be switched via respective API calls. The sensor data will be stored in a database to allow later analysis thereof. We have so far implemented five application scenarios on the smart city light.
